All this took place to fulfill
what the Lord had said through the prophet:
"The virgin will be with child
and will give birth to a son,
and they will call Him "Immanuel"
- which means, "God with us."
(Matthew 1:22)
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
during the time of King Herod,
Wise Men from the east
came to Jerusalem and asked,
"Where is He that is born king of the Jews?
We have seen His star in the east
and have come to worship Him."
(Matthew 2:1-2)
Jesus replied,
"Let it be so now;
it is proper for us to do this
to fulfill all righteousness."
Then John consented.
As soon as Jesus was baptized,
He went up out of the water.
At that moment heaven was opened,
and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove and lighting on Him.
And a voice from heaven said,
"This is my Son, whom I love;
with Him I am well pleased."
(Matthew 3:15-17)
Jesus went throughout Galilee,
teaching in their synagogues,
preaching the good new of the kingdom,
and healing every disease and sickness
among the people.
News about Him spread all over Syria . . ..
Large crowds from Galilee,
the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea
and the region across the Jordan followed Him.
(Matthew 4:23-24,25)
