When Joseph and Mary had done everything
required by the Law of the Lord,
they returned to Galilee
to their own town of Nazareth.
And the Child grew and became strong;
He was filled with wisdom
and the grace of God was upon Him.
(Luke 2:39-40)
The people were waiting expectantly
and were all wondering in their hearts
if John might possibly be the Christ.
John answered them all,
"I baptize you with water.
But One more powerful than I will come,
the thongs of whose sandals I am unworthy to untie.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
(Luke 3:15-16)
All the people in the synagogue were furious
when they heard this. They got up,
drove Him out of the town,
and took Him to the brow of the hill
on which the town was built,
in order to throw Him down the cliff.
But He walked right through the crowd
and went on His way.
(Luke 4:28-30)
