DP 260 [1, 3]
. . . by the Jews in the Word are meant
all who are in the church
and acknowledge the Lord,
and that by the land of Canaan
into which it says they were to be introduced
is meant the Lord's church.
That this nation has been preserved
and dispersed over much of the earth
is for the sake of the Word in its original language,
which they, more than Christians, hold sacred,
and in every particular of which
the Lord's Divinity is present.
For the Word is Divine truth
that emanates in union with Divine good from the Lord,
and accordingly the Word is the means
of the Lord's conjunction with the church
and of the presence of heaven . . .
existing everywhere the Word is read reverently.
This is the objective of Divine providence,
for the sake of which the Jewish people
have been preserved and dispersed
over much of the earth.
