About Joseph he said:
"May the Lord bless his land
with the precious dew from heaven above
and with the deep waters that lie below;
with the best the sun brings forth
and the finest the moon can yield;
with the choicest gifts of the ancient mountains
and the fruitfulness of the everlasting hills;
with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness
and the favor of Him
who dwelt in the burning bush.
(Deuteronomy 33:13-16)
And Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab,
as the Lord had said.
He buried him in Moab,
in the valley opposite Beth Peor,
but to this day no one knows where his grave is.
Moses was a hundred and twenty years old
when he died,
yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone.
Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses,
whom the Lord knew face to face . . ..
(Deuteronomy 34:5-7,10)
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord,
the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide:
"Be strong and courageous,
because you will lead these people to inherit the land
I swore to their forefathers to give them.
Do not let this Book of the Law
depart from your mouth;
meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do everything written it it.
Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be terrified;
do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you where you go."
(Joshua 1:1,6-9)
Then Joshua son of Nun
secretly sent two spies from Shittim.
"Go, look over the land," he said, "especially Jericho."
So they went and entered the house
of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.
So she sent them away and they departed.
And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.
