Because those have peace
who are in the conjunction of good and truth from the Lord,
and because evil destroys good,
and falsity destroys truth,
so do these destroy peace.
From this it follows
that those who are in evils and falsities have no peace.
It appears as if they had peace
when they have success in the world,
and they even seem to themselves
at such times to be in a contented state of mind;
but that apparent peace is only in their externals,
while inwardly there is no peace . . ..
