that after she had brought forth, he might devour her offspring,
(Revelation 12:4)
signifies that they who are meant by "the dragon"
will endeavor to extinguish the doctrine of the New Church in its first origin.

that the church should at first be among a few,
and that it should successively increase among many,
because the falsities of the former church must first be removed;
for before this, truths cannot be received,
since truths,
which are received and implanted before falsities are removed,
